Sculpture 1 Reflection

The sculpture Fur and Pearls was inspired by the idea of how animal hide has become a sign of wealth. I wanted to focus on the problems of killing animals for fur because I find that extinction is an awful thing and as humans, we have a duty to protect the earth including the animals that inhabit it. I believe that killing animals for their fur is an issue that need to be fixed. In this piece, I tried to portray how fur coats are associated with the wealthy and famous. I decided to include the “pearls” in the piece to represent how the woman is of higher class. She is ignorant about the issue and cares about how the fur accentuates her appearance.

Sculpture 2 Reflection

The sculpture Bison Head was inspired and reflected on the endangerment and extinction of the American Bison. Bison were deemed extinct in the 1900s due to hunting for their fur, horns, and meat. However, today, there are conservations that aim to restore Bison in a controlled area. In this piece, I wanted to focus on the distress that animals go through and the thousands and millions of Bison that were killed ever since humans began to exploit them. This piece does not speak for only Bison, but for all species. Bison Head is connected to Furs and Pearls by highlighting the animal that the fur coat was made from. The fur coat was once a living thing, which is hanging on the wall behind the woman as Bison Head.
